Why are you doing this? What's in it for you?

As a small business in a space dominated by a behemoth with practically unlimited funds, I thought about how to build trust with my future customers. I decided to weave snippets of all my products into a free preview that's better than what others are charging for.

I want people to feel confident they know what they are getting. When someone is ready to buy their next book or join my upcoming Kickstarter campaign, they will know whether my products are the type of material they are looking for.

Is this really free?

Payment is turned off for this product

Yes.

Payment information is turned off and a 100% discount is applied.

I have a promotion going on for my books at the moment, so if you want to snag that while you can, that does require a payment. If you just want the free PDF, skip the promotion and checkout with the free PDF.

Why didn't you just put it on DMSGuild or provide a link?

I've had a lot of questions about why I am running this through my store versus X. The short answer is that I keep updating the product, and the easiest way to send out those updates is through the digital library backend I built.

Why a Digital Library instead of a link?

I built a digital library to house the master copy of my manuscripts. This means all of my backers spread across multiple crowdfunding campaigns, customers, and people trying out my free products only need to go to one place. They know they are getting the latest and greatest version of the product. In practice, this has allowed me to update the product from the original 61 pages, to 110 pages, to the current 200 pages and most importantly notify everyone who picked it up that new content has been added. If I did a link, I'd have no way to tell people the latest release is out.

Why not DMSGuild?

You give DMSGuild the exclusive right to sell your product. They take a 50% cut. I'm not interested in either of these things. They used to not allow your own settings either, I don't know if this is still the case.

Do you use any AI art?

No. I work with a team of artists and animators. This gives me extreme freedom to customize the illustrations and get feedback from the community. I drop concept art through final render masterpieces in Discord to get feedback every step of the way, which wouldn't be possible with AI art.

Why do you collect billing address for a free digital product?

You're telling me!

Depending on your checkout method, you might be required to put in your billing address. It's the most idiotic thing.

I have spent countless hours with Shopify trying to get rid of these fields. They are useless and just create friction. I don't need this information obviously, so put whatever you want. The only thing required is your email, so the link to your personal digital library can be sent.

I recently saw these fields required on another free product I was checking out on a different platform, so at least I'm not the only one getting saddled with this issue.

This design decision by eCommerce platforms has led to user frustration and wasted effort. Hopefully it will change, but tickets have been open about this problem for years. I don't have high hopes, and I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience!

How legit is this?

When people ask some version of this question, they are usually asking about three things:

  • Is this a real company/product?
  • Is it worth my time?
  • Is it balanced?

Yes.

  • Knight Vision Creative was launched in 2021 and has fulfilled three crowdfunding campaigns.
  • Customers have received over 40,000 products with an average review of 4.75⭐.
  • To date I've spent over 12 weeks doing nothing but balancing content. I work with technical editors, professional writers, and top artists to ensure maximum quality.
  • Since it's free, you can "trust but verify".

For that special player whom will just get it!
Clippy the may not be the patreon you want, but he's definitely the one you need.

A fun and unique patreon. Because we all need some Whimsy In Our Life ;)

Ha, the patron you need indeed! I keep hearing about ideas to make him into a villian, we'll see what happens....

I can’t wait to see what his patron does….

Using him as an NPC in a campaign. My party is conspiring to swindle his demonic patron. Only one remembers Clippy from MS, so only he realizes how dangerous William of Gates can be when sums of money are on the line.

Hahaha, William of Gates!!!! Amazing.

This is hilarious. What a use of it!

Clippy!

I think the content really pulls things together and binds up loose ends! It's also super fun, I would recommend just for the satire to use as a GM and see if your table catches on :)))

Hahaha, oh man, I love the roleplay posibilities with this one in particular!

Might go over the head of the younger crowds, but it is still epic!

The greatest Patron Ever!

Instantly putting this in our next campaign! I love the 'unsolicited assistance'. Great for random RP situations between the party and NPCs!

Ha! Totally, I was really feeling the 'I'm here to help when you don't need it!' vibe.

Clppy

It the most wonderful.

Ha, isn't it! It was a hilarious suggestion, and I really enjoyed thinking about how clippy would work as a patron!

Pretty funny tbh had to actually make the sub class homebrew in dnd beyond tho

Ha, glad you're enjoying it!

I do wish WOTC would recognize the value of having an open system. Their game is what it is because of that decision decades ago, so it's crazy to change course now and expect any of the same benefits.

Funny supplement

The Clippy patron is a funny addition to the warlock class. I haven't played it yet, but in the future I hope to, for sure it would be a funny experience and the concept and abilities seem well written and entertaining!

Thanks, Luigi!

I'm working on an NPC version of the subclass that I think players and GMs would love to hate!

Officeial Chaos

I used this with a Caracter that was a School of scribes wizard L4 / Warlock Clippy patron L3. In a Strixhaven Champaign. The GM (another GenXer) used Clippy to it's fullest Clippyness and several of us decided that our characters were slowly succumbing to insanity as a result of my "shinny bit of metal".

Ha, that sounds like the perfect execution! Love the details!

Hopefully you're all able to deal with its ongoing 'assistance'!

Blast from the past

Seeing clippy as a warlock patron brings back memories of early editions of Microsoft Office 😆

I'm not sure if this is good or bad (subscriptionless sounds good....), but you're welcome!
